COMING THIS WEEKEND

JOIN IN THE GREEK DANCING!

Hello, everyone! I’m Karen Brem, the Marketing Director for the Historic Mardi Gras Inn, and I am thrilled to share some exciting news about one of our city’s most anticipated events: the 2024 Greek Festival. This vibrant celebration of Greek culture will take place over Memorial Day weekend, from May 24th to May 26th, at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral located at 1200 Robert E. Lee Boulevard. If you’re looking for a weekend filled with delicious food, lively music, and joyous dancing, this is the event for you!

The Greek Festival is an annual event that showcases the rich heritage and traditions of Greece. This year promises to be bigger and better than ever, with a variety of activities and entertainment for all ages. The festival runs from Friday through Sunday, with hours from 5 PM to 11 PM on Friday, and from 11 AM to 10 PM on Saturday. Sunday the festival runs from 11 AM to 8 PM. It’s the perfect way to spend your holiday weekend, soaking in the festive atmosphere and experiencing a little slice of Greece right here in New Orleans.

One of the main highlights of the Greek Festival is, of course, the food. Prepare your taste buds for a culinary adventure with an array of traditional Greek dishes that will be available for purchase. From savory moussaka and spanakopita to tender souvlaki and juicy gyro wraps, there’s something to satisfy every palate. Don’t forget to leave room for dessert! Treat yourself to classic Greek sweets like baklava, loukoumades (honey puffs), and galaktoboureko (custard-filled pastry). To complement your meal, there will be a variety of Greek beverages, including ouzo, Greek wines, and refreshing iced Greek coffee.

In addition to the mouthwatering food, the festival will be brimming with entertainment. Music is a vital part of Greek culture, and you can expect to hear lively tunes performed by talented musicians throughout the weekend. Traditional Greek bands will play the bouzouki and other instruments, filling the air with melodies that will transport you straight to the Aegean.

But the fun doesn’t stop at listening—there’s also plenty of dancing to be enjoyed! A large dance floor will be set up, and everyone is invited to join in. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or just looking to try something new, the enthusiastic atmosphere will make it easy to get on your feet and join the circle. Festival-goers can watch and learn traditional Greek dances such as the syrtaki and kalamatianos, and the spirited instructors will ensure that even beginners can participate. The communal dancing is a wonderful way to immerse yourself in the culture and meet new friends.

For those who love a bit of retail therapy, the festival will feature a marketplace where you can purchase a variety of Greek goods. Browse through stalls offering beautiful jewelry, ceramics, clothing, and other handcrafted items. It’s the perfect opportunity to pick up unique souvenirs or gifts for loved ones.

The Greek Festival also includes activities for children, making it a fantastic family outing. Kids can enjoy games, face painting, and a special Athenian playground designed to keep them entertained while parents enjoy the festivities.

If you’re planning to attend the Greek Festival and need a place to stay, the Historic mardi Gras Inn offers clean, affordable accommodations with a warm, welcoming staff.
